UNICOPS Project Meeting with Cyprus Police: Advancing Cooperation for Safer Universities

As part of the UNICOPS project (Universal CBRNE protection system supporting the safety and open nature of higher education institutions), a meeting was recently held with the Cyprus Police to explore opportunities for collaboration in safeguarding public spaces, universities, and higher education centres.

The meeting brought together representatives from RESET and the Cyprus Police, with discussions focusing on:

  • Enhancing protection against CBRNE threats (Chemical, Biological, Radiological/Nuclear and Explosives) in educational environments.
  • Strengthening cooperation between law enforcement, research and technology partners, and end-users.
  • Developing new opportunities for joint action to ensure safe and resilient academic communities.

This exchange underlined the importance of public–private collaboration as a cornerstone of the UNICOPS approach, which brings together diverse institutions, including research and expertise bodies, technology providers, law enforcement/security services, and universities, to jointly address emerging security challenges.

Through such cooperation, UNICOPS aims to reinforce the safety of students, academics, and the wider community, while maintaining the open and inclusive nature of higher education institutions.
