Study Visit at the Medical University of Lodz Research Complex

As part of our ongoing study visits, the UNICOPS consortium visited MOLecoLAB – Centrum Badań Molekularnych Chorób Cywilizacyjnych UM w Łodzi, the interdisciplinary research and innovation complex of the Medical University of Lodz. Hosted by Prof. Ireneusz Majsterek and organized in collaboration with Safety Core, this visit offered a unique perspective on CBRNe preparedness due to the medical nature of the institution.

The visit provided valuable opportunities to exchange views on laboratory security, institutional resilience, and preparedness for CBRNe-related risks in academic research environments. The medical research setting presented distinctive challenges and considerations compared to traditional academic institutions, enriching the project’s understanding of diverse higher education contexts.

Representatives from UNICOPS, including academic experts, security professionals, and operational specialists, participated in the discussions. This multidisciplinary engagement reinforces the project’s comprehensive approach to developing practical, evidence-based solutions for enhancing safety across Europe’s varied higher education landscape.

The workshop highlighted outcomes from extensive research activities, including desk research, survey research, and inspection visits, as well as the analysis of safety and security laws and regulations. All task leaders within WP2 have contributed significant work toward understanding what currently works in academic security, what is missing, and how we can practically enhance the safety of higher education environments while maintaining their open nature.

The outcomes presented during this workshop provide a crucial foundation for future implementation of tasks within WP3 (Development of the CBRNe protection system supporting safety and open nature of Higher Education Institutions), WP4 (Training and piloting system), and WP5 (Dissemination and mainstreaming). This collaborative effort ensures that UNICOPS delivers practical, evidence-based solutions tailored to the real needs of academic communities across Europe.
